KINGWOOD, Texas Police took extra precautions on Friday after rumor spread like wildfire on the Internet about a possible shooting near Kingwood Park High School.

The rumor, which originated out of state, did not even mention an attack at schools, but the Humble Independent School District was not taking any chances.

All I heard is that somebody posted on a block that they were going to shoot up a gas station and so they locked down all the schools as a precaution, Tina Billiards, a parent, said.

Not much changed for students, who were in class at the time.

They kind of kept it on the down low, so they wouldn t disrupt the peace of the school, Elliot Billiards, an11th-grader, said. So it was kind of just a regular day for me.

There was a heavy police presence at the school Friday afternoon. Earlier in the day, Humble ISD issued an alert about an Internet rumor that there was going to be a mass shooting at a Kingwood gas station.

Police are not saying which gas station was mentioned, but there was an increased presence at the one on Northpark Drive and Woodland Hills.

Absolutely, Absolutely. If some guy brings out a shotgun and starts shooting an automatic rifle in a gas station like this, yeah, I d be scared, Gary Bender, a concerned resident, said.

However, police said the threat is not substantiated, and a suspect has been identified. The heightened security was simply a precaution, and testament to the times.
