HOUSTON - Officers responded to a late night carjacking in Independence Heights and were able to take five people into custody, according to the Houston Police Department.

It was around 11 p.m. Thursday when five men allegedly approached another man in a sport utility vehicle outside the Sunmart corner store on Yale Street at Delz Street in north Houston.

The men held the driver at gunpoint while forcing him to get out of the vehicle, police said. They then took off without harming the driver.

An HPD unit later spotted the stolen vehicle at a Whataburger on Little York near the North Freeway. Everyone in the SUV was taken into custody.
