HOUSTON - How cool would it be to meet some of the Houston Texans players and go on a shopping spree at the same time. That is exactly what some lucky kids got to do Tuesday.
For these young Texans fans it was a dream come true.
Yes. I m very excited, because I got picked to go shopping with the Texans. This is very big for me, Brianecia Brown said.
Brianecia is one of 30 kids from the YMCA and Boys and Girls Clubs chosen to go on an all expense paid shopping trip to Academy Sports & Outdoors with rookie football players.
They get a $100 to spend and buy whatever they want, Nick Mondek, an offensive lineman from Purdue University, said.
I picked this Hello Kitty (backpack) and some socks and some shoes, and I bought this for my cousin cause she like boots, Brianecia said.
What s great is a lot of them are buying stuff for their brothers or cousins, Mondek said. That s what s pretty cool. They aren t just buying stuff for themselves, buying it for their friends and family.
The children were chosen based on need. Players helped the kids try on shoes, pick out electronics and even play with the toys. They re scoring smiles both on and off the field.
I think it s to give back to the community and show them that we care, Cameron Collins, a linebacker from Oregon State, said.
We re so fortunate. It s so good to give back to them. Just to see the smiles on their faces. It s worth it, Phillip Supernaw, a tight end from Ouachita Baptist, said.
It didn t take a touchdown for the Texans to the touch the hearts of these kids.
