HOUSTON Traffic was snarled on Highway 6 in northwest Houston Thursday afternoon after a two-car crash forced officials to shut down both the north and southbound lanes.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 6, near Patterson.

Air 11 was over the scene as firefighters worked to extract the driver of a gray sedan.

The sedan and a red SUV apparently crashed into each other, head on.

Life Flight was called to the scene for the sedan driver, but the extent of his or her injuries was not known.

All lanes were reopened Thursday night.
