HOUSTON-Making your own household cleanser is easy and quick. But the best part is, homemade cleanser doesn't just save money -- it has other benefits, too!

We got the recipe from Nora Kapche, Houston's .

Here it is:

MIX

1 cup Borax

1 cup baking soda

1 cup salt

All the ingredients are found in the laundry aisle at the grocery store. The homemade cleanser costs 77 cents for 24 ounces. Store-bought brands cost $1 for 21 ounces, so there's not a huge spread between the numbers, but the homemade batch gives you more bang for your buck. Kapche says it lasts longer, because a little cleans a lot more than the name brands. And there's an extra benefit.

"You know, because this has salt in it, by the time you're finished cleaning, your hands are so soft and lovely. It's a great way to soften your skin too without having that chemical smell," said Kapche.

Plus, the homemade cleanser is all-natural---salt, baking soda and Borax, which is a mineral. That's eco-friendly.

When we tested the homemade cleanser against Comet on scuff marks on a pair of white shoes, both did equally well. Neither could get all the marks off, but both did the same to greatly reduce them.
