HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- Harris County Precinct 4 Constables are investigating a fiery crash into a house that left a driver dead early Monday.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 11700 block of Turtle Lake Drive in northwest Harris County.
A neighbor shot cell phone video, recording the terrifying moments after a four-door sedan sped through a stop sign on Rockville Lane and plowed through a home.
Deputies said the car sideswiped a Saturn parked in the driveway, hitting another car and pushing through the garage door. The impact sparked a huge fireball and explosion, killing the driver who was trapped inside.
I m thinking maybe our house was going to catch fire. We heard popping, said Real.
No one was home when the accident happened. Investigators said the family was on vacation.
I heard a big boom. I ran outside and saw the fire. The guy was in there hollering, but we couldn't help him, said Real.
People in the neighborhood said an accident was bound to happen.
I heard someone was in there and they were trying to get them out of there, but they couldn't make it, said Christian Molina, a neighbor. We were never able to get speed bumps because a lot of people have been speeding here on the street.
Neighbors said they ve seen plenty of people drive through the stop sign at high rates of speed.
There s just so many people that drive around in our neighborhood, that drive recklessly. It's scary to see it happen and it actually caused a scene, said Jason Grimaldo, a neighbor.
Investigators with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constables office, as well as the Cypress Creek Fire and Rescue department are still trying to figure out the identity of the driver and cause of the accident.
