HOUSTON -- Houston Fire Department officials said a foundation repair worker went to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition Wednesday after lightning struck a tree in the front yard of a home in Meyerland that he and his crew were working on.

The lightning strike occurred in the 5400 block of Imogene at Renwick.

Three other workers went to Memorial Hermann Southwest in stable condition.

A neighbor heard a loud boom and said she ran outside and saw the workers in distress.

They were all huddled around and they were calling 911. They had a man lying over there on the ground, said Amanda Caprio. They were working really close to the tree that was hit. It was very intense. A lot of the workers were crying. The fire trucks came and then the fire marshal came and you knew it was something really serious.
