HOUSTON -- Wanda Shannon can t count how many Astros games she s attended through the years., but the lifelong fan had never gone to a game quite like the one she did on Monday.

I never got to do anything like this, said Shannon. I ve never done this.

She had never been asked to suit up and never been asked to throw out a pitch.

Ask her granddaughter what makes Bammaw so special and she ll tell you it s because she fights.

She's got stage four cancer right now, said Misty Acton. It's breast cancer that's spread to her bones, lymph nodes and lung.

It's her fourth time battling the disease. That s why Misty entered Bammaw's name into the Astros honorary bat girl contest. She didn't win, but then came this unexpected invitation.

It doesn't even seem real yet, said Acton. It just seems like we're going to a regular game. So this is pretty exciting and I'm really excited for Bammaw.

After some last minute pointers, the moment arrived.

Shannon threw a low slider just outside the strike zone, but she thought it was pitch-perfect.

I'm in stage four cancer and that cured me, said Shannon.
