HOUSTON Two masked men held up the popular House of Pies restaurant on Westheimer Road late Thursday, Houston police said.

The robbery was reported around 9:45 p.m. near Briar Ridge, a few miles west of the Galleria.

Witnesses said two armed men wearing ski masks came into the restaurant and forced everyone onto the floor. They demanded money and cell phones. They then took cash from the register and shot several rounds into the ceiling, police said.

The biggest thing we were concerned about was what kind of pie to order, and then the next thing you know it s a gunshot and someone screaming get on the floor, one customer told KHOU 11 News.

There were about 75 people inside the packed restaurant at the time, but no injuries were reported. Some of them spoke about the frightening ordeal.

A guy came by, kicked us, kicked me, and said where s your money? a witness said. I threw them in the way, and waved that they were there scary.

I had my eyes closed and I was on top of her underneath the table. I heard them coming and he just kicked under the table and just asked for the money, said Amber McDaniel.

He threatened everyone that if you don t have your money, your wallet out or your cell phone and if he has to pull you out, you will die. That he will kill you, McDaniel s friend said. And so here we are, by God s grace.

One man said even though he offered his money, the crooks did not take it.

They kept looping around. It was bizarre, said Mark Reed. You know I sat there, I took my money out of my pocket and I held it out like this. I was sitting crouched under the table and they just kept looping around and never bothered to take my money.

A woman near the front door managed to flag down a passing officer, and the suspects fled the scene on foot. Officers were able to catch one of the men nearby, but the other one got away.

Police said they recovered a backpack that the suspects threw when they were running. Inside, HPD officers found about a dozen cell phones and a purse.

A detailed description of the suspect that got away was not available.
