SAN ANTONIO -- A Texan is facing federal weapons charges along with his father who was accused of selling an assault rifle that wound up at the scene of a Mexican drug lord s arrest.

Federal prosecutors say Michael Damon Rodriguez of Spring Branch was not a licensed gun dealer and passed two weapons on to his father, Manuel Rodriguez, who was a convicted felon.

The elder Rodriguez was indicted earlier this year. The San Antonio Express-News reported Tuesday that father and son shared a home raided by U.S. authorities.

An agent testified at a hearing for the elder Rodriguez that a gun provided to Michael Rodriguez and later sold by his father at a show was found when Zetas leader Miguel Angel Trevino Morales was arrested in July outside Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
