HOUSTON An 11-year-old Houston Boy Scout received a positive response after appealing to the mayor to get libraries to expand their hours and stay open on the weekends.
Luke Mee said he experienced difficulty as he was working on a school project and he and his classmates needed information on Hiroshima and Pearl Harbor.
The only day that pretty much everyone, we could go to the library was Sunday, but most the libraries were closed then, he said.
Luke said sometimes his mom would have to take off work just so they could get their project done.
At a troop meeting with Mayor Annise Parker he flat out asked about getting the hours expanded and Parker said yes.
She has given the go ahead to restore Saturday hours at 14 neighborhood libraries.
