HOUSTON The President knows audiences can be tough, but rarely does he face what happened Thursday.
While he was delivering a much-anticipated speech on U.S. counterterrorism at the National Defense University in greater Washington DC, a woman spoke out.
You can close Guantanamo today, you can release those 86 prisoners! she shouted.
The woman, identified as Medea Benjamin, is president of Code Pink. The antiwar group is against drones and the detention of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.
She interrupted President Obama three times, and he appeared to grow irritated.
You should let me finish my sentence, he told her.
Benjamin was ultimately removed from the room, but did not leave quietly.
Can you take the drones out of the hands of the CIA? she shouted. Will you apologize to the thousands of Muslims you have killed?
Though President Obama disagreed with his critic, he said to cut her some slack since the subject is worth being passionate about.
