HOUSTON The teenager accused of shooting two Jacinto City police officers appeared in court Tuesday morning in a wheelchair.

Edgar Cuellar, 17, was shot in the leg by police during a standoff last month.

Cuellar is charged with four counts of aggravated assault of a public servant.

Two weeks ago his relatives called 911 about Cuellar being suicidal and prosecutors said Cuellar shot the two officers who responded and tried to help.

Cuellar s attorney said the family had been trying to get him help for awhile.

His mother does not speak English. She actually had him seen by someone and he had medication he had stopped taking, said Attorney Robert A. Jones.

Cuellar was being held on $50,000 bond.
