KATY, Texas A Katy grandmother was playing with her twin granddaughters Tuesday night when a loud noise startled them.

I said to my daughter, I think that s a gun, Linda Deffet said. One of the twins thought it was a tornado. The other one thought it was a firecracker.

It turned out to be a pellet fired through a window of the home in the 3000 block of Winding Shore Lane in the South Lake Village area.

Fortunately, it didn t hit Deffet, her daughter or the 4-year-old twins.

Mike Bryant s home on Winding Shore was also hit.

My wife was seriously considering moving the kids from one side of the house to the other, he said. But I don t really see the point. You go walk across the street and something could happen. You never know.

A total of four homes were targeted in a series of drive-by shootings that stretched into the Cinco Ranch area, as well.

Investigators don t know why the homes were targeted. At this point, the shootings appear to be random.

You know, it s so frightening, Deffet said. I don t know why. I think they probably think it s a game.

Witnesses have no description of the suspects or a vehicle. But all of them said the car had a loud muffler.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to a conviction. Call 713-222-TIPS(8477) if you can help.
