HARRIS COUNTY, Texas Two burglary suspects died early Thursday following a crash in northwest Harris County, deputies said.

The Harris County Sheriff s Office said the suspects were caught by a homeowner trying to break into a car shortly after 2 a.m.

They fled the scene, but the homeowner jumped in his vehicle and gave chase. The suspects, who were in a small car, were struck by a pickup truck after running a red light along the North Sam Houston Parkway at Bammel North Houston, deputies said.

The suspect s family arrived at the scene and looked on in tears as deputies completed their investigation.

I hope it s not my little brother, that s all I hope, Denny Zevala said. I saw his car on the news and my little brother isn t answering his phone.

Deputies permitted one relative to walk up to the car and look at the deceased person inside, confirming their worst fears.

Family members were heartbroken, but didn t seem to blame the homeowner who took chase.

He should ve called the police, Zevala said. But I d probably would ve done the same thing and chased him too.

The car was badly smashed, and one of the suspects died at the scene. The other suspect was sent to the hospital where he later died.

The truck flipped onto its side. Its driver was sent to the hospital where they were said to be in stable condition.

Once I got the guy out of the truck, I walked over to the car and all you saw was blood, said Jeremy Baldwin, a witness who tried to help the people involved in the crash. The seatbelt was wrapped around his neck.

The homeowner was later questioned by deputies and was allowed to go home.

The crash was cleared shortly after 9 a.m.
