TEXAS CITY Although police haven t revealed a motive in Thursday s deadly shooting, witnesses described a chaotic attack that sent them fleeing a duplex and hiding in closets as a gunman sought his target.

One man was killed and another was charged with murder after being treated for wound.

At 12:47 a.m., Texas City police received calls about shots fired in the 1200 block of Seventh Avenue North. At least one witness said the gunman was still inside the two-story duplex.

Officers found Danzel Campbell, 21, of La Marque bleeding in the street, Texas City police Capt. Brian Goetschius said. Campbell died at 3:13 a.m. at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, said John Florence, a spokesman for the Galveston County Medical Examiner s Office.

Police also found Corey Percy Becton, 19, at the scene and said he was shot as well, an apparent grazing wound to his neck. After receiving treatment at a hospital, Becton was booked into the city jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remained jailed Thursday afternoon on $140,000 bond. Police still seek a witness to the shooting, Goetschius said.
