HOUSTON Texans running back Arian Foster is always quick to give his offensive line the credit when talking about his success.
On Wednesday, he showed his appreciation for what the big guys do to pave the way in front of him.
Foster, who rides around Reliant Park in a Segway, gave each one of his offensive lineman one to call their own. Yes, that s right; each offensive lineman was given a Segway.
He is now one of my best friends in the world, said left tackle Duane Brown. I ve never been so excited to get a Christmas gift in my life.
Merry Christmas indeed.
I feel like all the big hogs up front can enjoy the joy that I get from riding my Segway, said Foster. Any time I give a gift, I try to give something thoughtful. I saw a little bit of jealousy in their eyes when they talk about me.
There could be a meaning behind this. I think he is just fascinated with the way we all look at his Segway which he rides around like his own personal chariot, said Brown.
The gesture was greatly appreciated. However, putting offensive lineman on small rolling devices could be cause for concern. Not for Foster.
No man, they re professional athletes, said Foster. Sometimes they re like polar bears on ice, but they should be fine. You can t go that fast on them so you might get a scrape if you fall, but I don t they re going to fall, they ll be alright.
This is the first time I ve been on one, said right tackle Derek Newton. You could see I m shaky right now, I m in turtle mode. It will be like this for a couple of weeks until I get the hang of it.
Now, the pressure is on quarterback Matt Schaub, who usually gives the offensive line a gift as well. Schaub says he ll hand out his presents on Friday.
You know, I just hope they don t feel too spoiled at the end of this thing, said Schaub. They deserve every bit of it. It s funny to see their faces as they ride around. I just want them to be careful.
We re athletes man, we have body control, said Brown when asked about being on his new ride. We won t harm ourselves at all.
The big guys up front will return the favor to Foster against the Vikings.
I expect him to have a big day on Sunday, said Brown.
