HOUSTON United Airlines is adding 50 Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its fleet over the next several years.
Deep in a press release Monday United quietly announced it is preparing to provide maintenance support from its Houston base. There is already a simulator at the training center at Bush Airport where United pilots are being trained for the Dreamliner.
It is not just the aircraft maintenance that will be going on in the hangars. United says that it is already gathering thousands of spare parts for the aircraft that will be warehoused there.
Darren Bush, an airline analyst with the University of Houston, said he thinks this will at least keep jobs here, if not add some over time.
Things that make business sense make business sense. It does look bad with them saying in the press how horrible things are going to be, he said.
