HOUSTON Seven suspected militia members were detained Tuesday after detectives found what appeared to be explosives in a mobile home in Liberty County, deputies said.

Investigators were searching for a person of interest in a missing-person case when they made the discovery.

ATF agents responded to scene, which is located east of Cleveland, near County Road 2134 and FM 787.

The Liberty County Sheriff s Office says the standoff near Cleveland ended peacefully Wednesday night. Officers negotiated for a few hours to get several people in the residence to come out.

Sheriff s Capt. Rex Evans says a sweep of the residence turned up ammunition, wires and pipes.

Liberty County officials said they would tag the ammunition to make sure that it came from legitimate sources.

One person was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance, and the rest were released.
