GALVESTON, Texas Galveston police are investigating after thieves ransacked a home owned by two Galveston County sheriff s deputies and stole cash raised at a cancer benefit.

I told her, What are we going to do, said Deputy Jesse Khaled.

Khaled and his wife, Amanda, who is also a sheriff s deputy, live in the 6300 block of Heards in east Galveston.

Thursday morning, crooks broke into their home and stole jewelry, electronics and $3,600 in cash.

The money was to go to Khaled s sister, a youth pastor who lives in Oklahoma, to help in her fight against cancer. She does not have medical insurance.

We pay approximately $250 a week for her cancer, plus another $300 for another medication that eases the effects of the chemo on her so that s $1,300 a month we have to pay for her, said Khaled.

Khaled said he left the money in the back of a drawer in his bedroom and was planning to deposit it into a bank account, but with spring break last week, and his children out of school, he wasn t able to do so.

He says his sister is the one who is helping the family get through this.

I told her, What are we going to do, we have to find another means, and she said, Don t worry, don t worry, it s going to happen, said Khaled. She actually told me not to worry about it and that God is in control.

A spokesperson told KHOU 11 News that they did recover fingerprint evidence from the scene and are working to see if that will lead them to the thieves.
