HOUSTON Arson was investigating a fire at an apartment complex in west Houston on Saturday, the latest in a series of similar fires in the area, according to HFD officials.

Firefighters said they responded to the fire near the intersection of S. Ripple Creek and Woodway around 5:30 a.m. and found smoke coming from the front entry way of one of the buildings.

Authorities located the fire at a door that leads to four units. Firefighters entered the apartments and rescued four people who were trapped.

One child and one adult were transported to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. The two other adults involved were unharmed.

HFD said the fire could be connected to others in the area.

We ve had a rash of fires very similar to this over the past couple of months, said Robert Schlieter.

Firefighters said whoever started the fire poured a flammable liquid on the stairs and lit it ablaze.
