SUGAR LAND, Texas Parents of students in Fort Bend ISD are fighting to keep three schools from shutting down.

District officials say Colony Bend Elementary, Willow Ridge High School and Christa McAulliffe Middle School don t have enough students, so closing them would save money.

But the idea isn t popular with many parents, who say the schools were part of the reason they purchased their homes.

Fort Bend ISD e-mailed a statement to 11 News, saying the district is looking at its options.

The district said while some schools are under capacity, others are over capacity. Given budget issues, they re looking at ways to save money.

If the schools do close, students would have to be re-zoned to other campuses.

The Colony Grant Homeowners Association was set to meet Wednesday night at 7 p.m. to discuss the possible closure of Colony Bend Elementary.

The meeting will take place at Colony Grant Clubhouse on Robinsons Ferry.
