STAFFORD, Texas A game of poker ended with one man shot and a second killed during a robbery Thursday night.
So far, no one is in custody. The man killed, Donald Leonetti, was a popular businessman.
At Leonetti Graphics in Missouri City, customers come for colorful shirt and banner designs. However, they printed just one black-and-white sign Friday. It told customers the business closed due to family emergency.
I said, oh my God what happened, said Nirmala Christie, who runs a daycare next door to Leonetti Graphics.
Donald Leonetti was a father, husband and friend to many in Fort Bend County and Houston. His Facebook page is loaded with tributes. For years, his sign and shirt designs helped children raise money and Roque Baecker s restaurant thrive.
Yeah, Donald was a business man and he needed to make money just like anybody else, Baecker said. But, he also had good creative ideas and was open to sitting down and helping you.
Leonetti also played poker. Friends said he sometimes hosted games in his office. Thursday night, Leonetti was with 14 to 19 others at an invitation-only game inside a Stafford strip center office in the 4000 block of Greenbriar. The office has no sign. Its windows are tinted.
Still, two masked gunmen found them. They waved long rifles and demanded cash. Players had $7,000 to $8,000 on the table.
During the robbery, the gunmen opened fire. Bullets hit Charles Olsen, 56, and Leonetti. Olsen survived. Police found Leonetti s body near a bathroom.
I m so sad and I m sorry for the family involved, Christie said. You know, it s very shocking with everything that s happened, Baecker said.
Cameras caught both robbers leaving in a tan older model Buick.
Detectives do not yet have names or know how the suspects knew when and where to strike.
