HOUSTON The City of Houston is putting the final touches on this year s Freedom Over Texas 4th of July celebration. Once again it takes place in Eleanor Tinsley and Sam Houston Parks along Buffalo Bayou.
This year the main stage is below street level on the grass near the bayou, instead of being in the middle of Allen Parkway.
City officials said that should allow for better pedestrian traffic flow.
The gates open at 4 p.m. Friday with 50,000 people expected inside the paid admission area.
The fireworks begin at 9:35 p.m. with the 3500-plus mortar shell display lasting 17 minutes.
Tickets are $10 per person. Children five and under get in free.
Pets are not allowed; neither are coolers or over-sized umbrellas. A wide variety of food and beverages will be available for sale.
