PEARLAND, Texas -- Pearland Police say DNA evidence led authorities to the killer of 16-year-old Arrijana Hill.
Investigators are now revealing that Hill was pregnant with twins when she was stabbed and strangled.
It happened inside her family s home on March 21 in a guard gated community off of East Cedar Hollow Drive.
Police arrested the would-be-father of the unborn babies on Tuesday afternoon.
The suspect was 16-years-old at the time of the killing and has since turned 17.
Today was definitely helpful in starting more of the healing process and a little more closure for me and my family, said mother Opal Hill.
Opal Hill stood beside Arrijana s godmother and older brother as well as the family s pastor Christopher Hartwell just hours after news of an arrest.
She didn t say if she knew her daughter was pregnant when she was murdered. She also did not say if she knew her daughter s alleged killer.
She said she was hopeful that the legal system would take care of it.
[I m hoping for] just complete justice, complete justice, explained Hill.
Police say her daughter and the suspect both attended Dawson High School in Pearland.
He transferred to Pasadena Memorial High one week after the murder. That s where he was taken into custody on Tuesday in the school s administrative office.
He seemed normal. He didn t seem suspicious or anything, said Justin Williams, a student at Pasadena Memorial High.
Police say a DNA analysis determined paternity of the unborn twins. However, authorities have not said if that s the motive.
My daughter had a delightful spirit, always smiling, always happy. I continue to remember her as that person, added mother Opal Hill.
KHOU is not identifying the 17-year-old suspect because he is currently being charged as a juvenile. He s being held at a juvenile detention center on capital murder charges.
The Brazoria County District Attorney s Office will determine if he will be tried as an adult.
