LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas A curious toddler, who was the target of a frantic search in Liberty County Sunday evening, was found safe nearly two miles from his home.

A relative was babysitting 2-year-old J.J. (Jesse James) Sumrall when he walked out of the house on CR 3795, wearing nothing but a diaper and a light shirt.

The woman called the Liberty County Sheriff s Department and they began organizing a search with deputies, volunteers and Texas EquuSearch.

They were worried about finding the little boy before darkness fell and a cold front with rain moved into the area.

Chance Ward and his dog Ike joined the search in the wooded area behind J.J.'s home. The dog sniffed out a diaper and a rope used by J.J.'s dad, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.

About that time, the toddler walked out of the woods near Fostoria Road and Highway 105 with his two puppies tagging along. They had walked nearly two miles to the Liberty/Montgomery County line. Little J.J. took off his diaper along the way.

A citizen spotted them, picked them up and called the Montgomery County Sheriff s Department.

Thankfully, the uninjured toddler and puppies, Zena and Georgia, werereturned home just as the cold rain began to fall.
