INDIANAPOLIS South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has set the bar high for the rest of the defensive ends at the NFL Combine, clocking in the fastest 40-yard dash time of the day.
Clowney, who measures 6 5 and weighs 266 pounds, ran an official time of 4.53 seconds. That number is a little higher than the unofficial totals of 4.47 and 4.48 that came out right after the runs.

To compare, Clowney s unofficial time of 4.47, that mark was faster than what 58 running backs and wide receiver ran on Sunday during their workouts.
Clowney s work was limited on Monday. The NFL Network reported during their coverage that he did not participate in on-field drills because of a hip flexor. In an interview with the network after his work-outs, Clowney said he advised teams he wasn't going to do any on field work this weekend and wait to display that at his Pro Day.
His vertical jump was measured at 37 1/2 inches. His broad jump was 10 feet, 4 inches.
Texas Longhorns defensive lineman Jackson Jeffcoat ran an unofficial 40-yd dash time of 4.60 seconds. Texas Tech s Kerry Hyder clocked in at 4.97 seconds.
Missouri defensive end Michael Sam recorded an official 40 time of 4.91 seconds.
