HOUSTON - Seven people are without a place to live following an early-morning fire south of downtown Houston.

The fire was reported on Francis Street at Caroline Street in midtown shortly before 2 a.m. Monday.

According to the Houston Fire Department, residents woke up to smoke and flames in the home and called 911. Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed. They say high winds played a role in feeding the fire and spreading it.

All of residents made it out without injuries, and no firefighters were injured battling the blaze.

The house was a total loss with heavy damage.

The cause of the blaze is unknown.
