HOUSTON Construction crews are working around the clock to get the House of Pies restaurant back open in time for the holidays.

The popular 24-hour restaurant was heavily damaged by fire late Wednesday and the blaze couldn't have happened at a worse time right before Thanksgiving.

It's a big week for us, it's our biggest week of the year, said Chuck Ganim, one of the restaurant's owners. We know that Thanksgiving isn't the same for a lot of families without House of Pies on their table. We don't want to let them down.

House of Pies opened in 1967. Due to the damage, this is the longest the restaurant has ever been closed.

The owners said they are using the fire as an excuse to give the place a facelift. When the restaurant reopens, patrons can expect an updated look.

Many hungry customers have been showing up to the restaurant and are shocked to learn about the fire.

My kids were like, Mom what happened to our pies? said Esther Meraz. We're regulars here. We're hoping they will be open for Thanksgiving.

Ganim said families like this are one of the reasons they're working hard to reopen.

We don't want to let them down.
