ARLINGTON Train wreck.
Those are just a few of the harsh words Sen. Ted Cruz has used as he wages his war on what he likes to call Obamacare.
Now he's bringing his message home to Texas, using even harsher words in front of hundreds of supporters who packed the Arlington Music Hall Tuesday night to hear from the tea party Republican.
And to call those backers fired-up is an understatement.
Cruz embraced a rowdy, 14-minute entrance to a party... his party... with handshakes and hugs.
Y'all know those Nigerian e-mail scammers? Well if you've noticed, we haven't heard nearly as much from them lately... they've all been hired to run the Obamacare website, Cruz joked.
But in addition to the humor, there were people yelling about impeaching President Obama... or kicking Democrats' backsides and taking names.
One speaker even challenged the president's religion.
Is there any doubt in your mind that our so-called president is not a Christian? he asked.
The speaker said he'd like to discuss that topic with the president if the Secret Service would let him get close enough.
You would find no polite political disagreement at Monday night's rally. There was defiance.
I am convinced we are going to stop Obamacare, Cruz said.
The senator himself has received death threats. We asked him repeatedly about personal attacks, and a mean-spirited tone. His answer? Those threats are unfortunate, but Obamacare doesn't work.
Look, what I am focused on is that Obamacare isn't working, and that's frankly what I would encourage those of y'all in the press to focus on, Cruz said. It's easy to find one person in a crowd and to divert the whole topic from the substance that matters; from the reason we had over a thousand people here. We had over a thousand people here because Texans are frustrated.
Ed. Note: This story originally erroneously said Cruz had said he'd like to discuss that topic with the president if the Secret Service would let him get close enough. It was in fact the speaker in the crowd. We apologize for the error.
