Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent was released from jail Sunday morning, weeks before his next scheduled court hearing.

Brent who was jailed after violating terms of his probation on an intoxication manslaughter charge wasn't expected to be released until that July 19 hearing.

A Dallas County spokeswoman said Brent was freed at 10:21 a.m. per a court order. It was not immediately clear what factors were involved in his release.

Brent had been returned to custody on June 27 after failing a second drug test, a violation of his probation.

Brent was behind the wheel of a vehicle that crashed in Irving on December 8, killing teammate Jerry Brown.

Brent is facing up to 20 years in prison if convicted of intoxication manslaughter.
