HOUSTON -- Police are looking for a man who allegedly stole items from an elderly woman's house in northeast Houston during a sales call.
Mona Wallace said a salesman claiming to work for Just Energy knocked on her door on Monday and told her about a new discount.
He said he had a 30-percent discount to lower people's bills, said Wallace.
So she invited him in.
Wallace said the salesman asked for two previous electric bills and then said he needed a third.
So when I was in there getting him another one and I heard him say Ms. Wallace, Ms. Wallace. I said, I will be there in a minute and he said, Ms. Wallace I need to go, she said.
Whenshe returned to her den, he was gone and she knew something wasn't right.
Wallace said it didn't take her long to notice her grandkids' two Samsung Galaxy tablets were missing.
Her son had just installed surveillance cameras outside thehouse, so they decided to take a look.
When he came out the door with his hand like this, I said he's got it up under his shirt, Wallace said.
It just kind of broke my heart, said her son, Cecil
He said hebought the tablets for his kids last Christmas and they loved them. He said it kept them from fighting over the TV.
His mother said the small computers were charging on a desk in the den and close to where the salesman was sitting.
Oh, it really hurt me that he would come in and take it, Wallace said.
She said the man was wearing some type of company badge, but whether he actually worked for the company is still unknown.
Just Energy told KHOU 11 News that it's investigating and is committed to get to the bottom of what happened. Company officials said they are checking to see if they had any contract employees working in that neighborhood.
Anyone with information about who this person is should call the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
