HOUSTON Houston police were looking for a speeding pickup truck driver who allegedly caused an HPD officer to run off the side of the road and crash in northeast Houston late Tuesday.

Police said an HPD officer was driving westbound on Parker at Cheeves around 11 p.m. when he saw headlights approaching quickly from behind.

Fearing that he would be hit, the officer ran onto the curb on the right side of the street and hit a metal street pole, knocking it down.

The person driving the red pickup truck the officer was trying to avoid kept going. Police conducted a search, but could not locate the driver.

The officer was not hurt in the crash.
