HOUSTON -- The longtime director of the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance, died Friday after a brief illness, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Sidney Berger, 77, was part of the department for 40 years before retiring in 2009.

During his time at UH, Berger oversaw the training of thousands, including Hollywood actors Randy and Dennis Quaid,

Berger also founded and was the longtime artistic director of the Houston Shakespeare Festival.
