HOUSTON -- Police said an overnight crash that left a car in a Houston apartment could have been a lot worse after the vehicle narrowlymisseda man and a child.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. Thursday on N. Houston Rosslyn Road at Alabonson Road on the northwest side of town.

We are very lucky, said Hernan Bonilla who was sleeping when the car crashed into his bedroom. His uncle heard the car and got him out of the way. He pushed me off the bed and we fell on the floor. All this stuff would ve fallen on us.

The car then slammed into a child s bedroom coming to a rest just inches from the kid s bed.

I heard the car, then Iwas scared, Daisy Vargas said.

It was just a big boom and the building was shaking, said neighbor Larry Vierra. I came out and heard people screaming and saw the car was all twisted.

Two men in the car had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters and were sent to the hospital in stable condition.

Investigators said the driver was traveling west on Alabonson and failed to stop at a red light and make the turn onto N. Houston Rosslyn. The vehicle crashed through a portion of one apartment building, where a small boy was sleeping, only to hit a second building within the complex.

HPD said the men would be looked over at the hospital as part of their investigation into what caused the crash.
