HOUSTON A day care worker is accused of fracturing the leg of a 2-month-old boy on the second day he was left in her care, according to Harris County Sheriff s deputies.

Susan Denise O Dell, 42, was charged with felony injury to a child.

O Dell was caring for the infant at her home day care on August 23, 2012 when she said she heard the child s leg pop, according to court documents.

O Dell said she was with the baby on a play mat and he was playing with toys hanging over his head. The baby got somewhat fussy, so O Dell said she gently grabbed his right thigh and pulled him toward her. The child got trapped under the right corner of the play mat so O Dell said she twisted him just a bit to remove him. That is when she heard a pop and the baby began to cry.

O Dell called the baby s father, who picked him up and took him to Texas Children s Hospital.

The baby suffered a spiral break of the right femur bone. Doctors said, in their expert opinion, the fracture was consistent with child physical abuse and represented excessive force applied to the child s body.

O Dell s bail was set at $5,000.
