CLEVELAND, Texas Several Cleveland ISD high school students were arrested on narcotics charges Thursday.
The district would not confirm exactly how many students were taken into custody, but said approximately 28 charges -- including delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and delivery for remuneration of a controlled substance have been filed.
All of the suspects are either Cleveland ISD students or former students. Some are adults, and others are juveniles.
Cleveland ISD police initiated the investigation after reports of multiple drug offenses occurring on school property.
Investigators believe the drugs involved include marijuana, Oxycodone, Soma and Lorazepam.
When the Cleveland ISD Police Department and I recognized a narcotics problem in our school district, action was taken to cease the sell and delivery of illegal drugs in our school district. I could not stand idly by and let the drug epidemic take over Cleveland ISD, I knew something had to be done, Cleveland ISD Superintendent Kerry Cowart said.
District officials said they expect more arrests in connection with the investigation.
