HOUSTON A woman suspected in a series of church thefts in Harris County, among other crimes, was arrested in Florida on Sunday.

Cynthia Gonzalez, aka Cynthia Martinez, has been on the run since June.

She s wanted in Harris County on charges of tampering with government records, credit card abuse and forgery. She s also wanted in Montgomery County and has several warrants in Florida.

According to investigators, Gonzalez was caught on tape stealing a woman s purse when the victim went up to take Communion at a Houston-area church. She s also suspected in eight to 10 similar cases at a number of Harris County houses of worship.

In addition, Conroe police say Gonzalez posed as a nurse to steal from patients and coworkers at the Sadler Clinic. Investigators said Gonzalez used someone else s identity to get a job there, and then stole credit card information and Social Security numbers.

They said they have surveillance video that shows Martinez using a stolen credit card to buy $700 worth of merchandise at a cell phone store last year.

Gonzalez has a history of financial crimes in the Greater Houston area dating as far back as 1991.

Harris County investigators said they re waiting for Gonzalez to be extradited to Texas before pursuing any further charges.
