HOUSTON A former Harris County Sheriff s deputy and his wife were sentenced Thursday for their respective roles in the ex-deputy s criminal activities.

George Wesley Ellington, 39, pleaded guilty to extortion under color of official right in April of 2011. On Thursday, he was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison without parole, to be followed by a two-year term of supervised release.

In April 2010, Ellington accepted a $500 bribe for using his position as a deputy to access confidential information from law-enforcement databases and for providing security and protection to a person he believed was illegally possessing and transporting ecstasy.

Ellington s wife, 31-year-old Tania Katrisse Ellington, was sentenced to 12 months and a day in federal prison without parole to be followed by a one-year term of supervised release for knowingly concealing her husband s criminal activity. She, too, pleaded guilty in April of 2011.

The Ellingtons were both allowed to remain out on bond, pending the issuance of a court order to surrender to a yet-to-be-designated Bureau of Prisons facility.
