KINGWOOD, Texas -- A Kingwood mother who lost her limbs is taking huge steps to becoming independent again.
11 News was at Muilenburg Prosthetics Thursday when Katy Hayes got her new arms.
Hayes caught a Strep A infection after giving birth in February.
In order to save her life, Katy's husband Al made the decision to have her arms and legs amputated.
I am blown away, she is unstoppable, said Al Hayes. She is doing great and I knww she is so excited about getting her arms, and they were talking at the doctor's yesterday that her wounds were healing so well. They're going to look at advancing her legs soon.
The owner of Muilenburg Prosthetics, Ted Muilenburg, said Katy is quickly getting used to her new arms. He said Katy will be able to hold her baby once she gets stronger and learns how to balance the child.
