HOUSTON An HPD officer shot and woundedasuspectduring a traffic stop late Wednesday, according to police.It happened on Pederson near Noel in southeast Houston.

Police saidthe officer attempted to pull over a pickup truck for a traffic violation,but the driver would not stop.

The driver eventually pulled over on Pederson, but would not exit the vehicle when given a verbal command by the officer, according to HPD.

The officer then approached the vehicle. The officer noticed the suspect was making suspicious movements and ordered him out of the truck multiple times, according to police.

The suspect was acting very aggressive, said HPD spokesperson Victor Senties. He was very combative, belligerent. He does not want to get out of the vehicle.

The officer then reached into the vehicle in an attempt to take the suspect into custody, and the two began to struggle. That is when police said the driver began to reach into his pants.HPD Officer Brenton Green, in fear for his life, opened fire.

Green shot the suspect once, hitting him in the neck.The suspect was taken to Ben Taub hospital in serious condition.

A male passenger in the car was also taken into custody.

Green has been on the force for 15 years.
