HOUSTON An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of a 19-year-old man who was found in a north Houston park on Dec. 1, 2013.

Students on a track team from nearby MacArthur High School spotted the body around 7 a.m. that day in the 12300 block of Aldine Westfield as they ran through Keith-Wiess Park, police said.

The victim was identified as Luis Lara. He suffered several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a preliminary investigation determined Lara was involved in a physical fight with several other males in the park. During the fight, police said Lara knocked down Jake Anthony Espinoza, who pulled out a gun and shot Lara several times.

Espinoza has been charged with murder and retaliation.

He was taken into custody on Monday without incident.
