HARRIS COUNTY, Texas A family is grieving after their 4-year-old boy died after he was hit by a truck backing out of a driveway Friday in northwest Harris County.
It was reported shortly before noon in the 7700 block of Theissetta near Louetta. Cy-Creek EMS confirms the child, Zain Ali, 4, died at the scene.
A 4-year-old child was struck by a motorist. The motorist was backing from the common driveway, Lt. David Mayes, Harris County Precinct 4 Constable s Office, said. It appears that the child was playing in the adjacent grass area and at some point entered the driveway area.
Mayes said the driver, upon striking the child, stopped his truck. He is cooperating with the investigation.
It took four men to hold back the father of the child and to console him. Neighbors said the family of child lost it when they saw the child on the ground.
The fire engines were coming and I ran down there and I saw the little boy before they covered him up, Jane Kannin, a neighbor said. And then a little while later, grandma came and she just lost it. And now, Daddy is ... terrible.
Kannin added that she has told drivers in the neighborhood to slow down with all of the children at play in the area.
We have a lot of kids. We have young people that go tearing around in here. And I yell at everybody, Slow down! There s kids! she said. And I even talk to the little kids who still at some point have to be careful where you re going. And look what happens.
The neighbor said there really is nothing anyone can say to a family when something like this happens.
Grandma, of course, doesn t know why God took him. There s no consoling her, Kannin said. I ve seen that little boy in the neighborhood so many times. And I just thought I was going to pass out. It was sad. I feel so horrible for those people.
Another neighbor said that the truck involved in the accident has been seen speeding through the neighborhood before.
That truck that ran him over? He s always speeding through here, Dre Bonilla, another neighbor, said. It s 5 mph around here, but he s always passing by with the loud music and stuff.
He added that the driver has a bit of a reputation in the area.
Yeah, we ve seen him out here before. He s known for driving fast. We ve seen him drive fast, he said.
The family of the victim spoke very fondly of the 4-year-old.
He was a very cute boy. That s all I can say. Very nice. Very friendly, Mustafa Sheraze, the boy s grand-uncle, said. He s a very likeable kid. You know, very friendly and not at all mischievous or anything. He was just playing in the yard and I think the truck came and hit him.
The incident has left other parents in the neighbor concerned over the safety of their children.
It really does worry me. It does a lot, Brandon Heugel, carrying his infant son Brandon, said. Definitely going to think twice about taking him for a walk.
