KATY, Texas One young woman is dead, another is in jail after a wrong-way crash on the Katy Freeway early Tuesday.
Brittini Kressin, 26, is charged with intoxication manslaughter for the accident that killed a 20-year-old woman.
Police say Kressin drove her silver Chevrolet Cavalier up the eastbound exit ramp of I-10 near North Durham around midnight.
She rear-ended a blue Toyota Corolla, then continued driving until she struck a motorcycle rider, according to investigators.
Kenneth Young saw the accident and ran to help.
He told me there was a woman in the car. I said, Is she okay? I wrenched open the door. I saw there was this girl, Young said. I tried to cradle her neck. let her breathe, I wanted her to be able to breathe. I couldn t get a hold of her, she was completely out of it.
The victim, who was a passenger in the back seat of the Toyota, was rushed to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The motorcyclist was sent to the hospital with a broken leg, police said.
I didn t see the motorcyclist. I passed her, Young said. I made a judgment call. She hit them,[the car] I m going to help them.
Now Young is left with the images of the young woman who didn t make it.
I saw her lips move once. I don t know what she said. She was trying to talk to someone and then she stopped moving, Young said.
Police say Kressin admitted she had been drinking at a bar just four miles away.
Kressin was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for minor injuries. She was taken into custody and then to jail after exhibiting signs of being intoxicated.
The freeway s eastbound lanes were closed for several hours overnight and reopened before 5 a.m.
