CUERO, Texas (AP) A Texas judge has cited a TV crime show in declaring a mistrial for a man charged with killing his girlfriend in a 2001 death originally ruled a suicide.
A judge in Cuero on Monday declared a mistrial due to pretrial publicity in the murder trial of Ronnie Hendrick of Yorktown.
Pamela Shelly was found fatally shot in January 2001. The case was reopened in 2008. Hendrick was indicted last October.
The TNT program Cold Justice featuring the case aired Sept. 3.
Judge Skipper Koetter on Monday noted the show aired six days before the trial opened. DeWitt County District Attorney Michael Sheppard says too many potential jurors saw the program and formed opinions.
Hendrick's murder trial was reset for June 16.
TNT publicists didn't immediate comment Tuesday.
