CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested a man in connection to last week's robbery and kidnapping at a animal hospital.

Police arrested 53-year-old Robert Rhinehardt early Thursday morning at a hotel near Interstate 85.

Rhinehardt is accused of robbing the Freedom Animal Hospital at gunpoint and also kidnapping an employee.

Police said Rhinehardt drove the hospital employee to an ATM to withdrawal money. Rhinehardt was also charged in a armed robbery that happened last Saturday on Welling Avenue.

Based on information and evidence collected during these investigations, detectives were able to identify Rhinehardt as a suspect.

CMPD s Violent Criminal Apprehension Unit was able to bring Rhinehardt into custody at the Luck Penny Hotel near I-85.

Rhinehardt was charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and three counts of second degree kidnapping.

Rhinehardt is currently in custody at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff s Office.
