HOUSTON -- Priscila Garcia is one of Waltrip High School s shining stars who seemingly does it all, even as she deals with a health crisis.
My kidneys never developed, so they stayed the size of an infant s. So when I reached a certain height and weight, they stopped working, she said.
That was her freshman year. Finally, as a senior, there was hope for a donor, but a problem with her insurance knocked her off the waiting list.
My hopes were already up, and then they said, 'your plan isn t sufficient,' she said.
Waltrip High School is trying to raise money for Priscila s cause. In the meantime, she says she stays positive through her dance performances.
It makes you forget about everything else, and you just kind of focus on learning the dance, and like, performing it right, she said.
Priscila is active on the dance team and said the choreography is a fun distraction. She s been on the team since her freshman year. With a nearly perfect GPA, she s known here for her incredible perseverance.
I m like with a lot of little kids (other dialysis patients), and they re always so happy, so I don t have a lot to complain about, she said.
