HOUSTON Homicide investigators released surveillance video and composite sketches Thursday of suspects wanted for questioning in the fatal beating and burning of a man in west Houston.

The attack happened around 4 a.m. Sunday, April 21, at an apartment complex located on 1323 Witte Road.

Three men beat the victim at the exit gate of the apartment complex and then set him on fire before fleeing the scene, police said.

The victim s cousin identified him as 30-year-old Carlos Hernandez. His cousins recognized Carlos and they got close to the body and saw it was Carlos, the woman said in Spanish.

That night he was with friends in front of the apartment complex drinking Coke and he started walking toward his home, and that s when everything happened.

Police said it was hard to ID the victim.

He was severely burned -- 92 percent of his body visually, he s not identifiable, said Sgt. William Bush with the Houston Police Department.

Police said they don t have a motive in the attack.

We don t know what happened. We are asking what happened we don t understand. He doesn t have enemies. Maybe they got him confused with another person and they killed Carlos, his cousin said. cousin.

The family said Hernandez was a father of a 6 year old. They also said he loved to play soccer and was well respected by everyone. Now the family is trying to raise $4,000 so they can ship the charred body to his mother in their native El Salvador.
