HOUSTON A standoff ended in gunfire late Saturday morning after police shot a man suspected of killing his father in his home in northeast Houston.

Officials with the Houston Police Department said that Niles Elias Thibodeaux, who was barricaded in a home in the 7400 block of Banyan Street, opened fire on them and police shot back wounding him.

The suspect, 44, was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his wounds, police said. Police found the suspect s father, Andrew Thibodeaux, 83, inside the home, but it has not been released how he was killed.

The standoff started after a family member called police at about 5 a.m. and told them that he was being threatened with a knife by another family member, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said that they heard gunshots coming from the home.

A SWAT team was called in just before 6 a.m. to assist with the situation.

HPD said they were negotiating with the barricaded suspect for most of the morning before gunshots could be heard just after 10:30 a.m.
