GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas Voters on Tuesday elected a Republican candidate to the sheriff s office. Henry Trochesset s early vote totals proved too large a lead for Democratic challenger John W. Pruitt Jr. to overcome.
On the final tally, Trochesset garnered 64,440 votes, or 60 percent, compared to 43,182 for Pruitt, according to complete but unofficial results.
Trochesset, a 28-year veteran of the sheriff s office, said he was honored to represent the voters.
I intend to be the people s sheriff, Trochesset said. I want to lead with honesty and integrity the way I was taught over the last 28 years.
Trochesset became the 26th man since 1838 to serve as county sheriff, according to the sheriff s office website, and likely the first Republican in the office at least since the Reconstruction period after the Civil War.
